Microsuction
Microsuction ear wax removal is a quick, safe, and painless procedure that uses a gentle suction probe to clear blockages, restoring clear hearing and comfort instantly. It is advisable to use olive oil ear drops or spray for three days prior to your appointment as it helps to soften the wax and make it easier to remove.

Irrigation
Ear irrigation is a simple, effective, and non-invasive method that uses a gentle stream of warm water to flush out ear wax, leaving your ears clean and clear. You will need to protect your ear canal from water for 3 days after the appointment by wearing ear plugs in the shower and also avoid submerging your ears underwater for a further 7 days.
What will happen during the appointment?
We will first go through a list of medical questions with you. This is to help us understand whether there are any medical reasons why microsuction or irrigation might not suit you. Before we proceed, we will fully inform you of any potential side effects.
The clinician will then have a look in your ears using an otoscope. If there is wax visible, they will continue with the microsuction procedure. If the wax cannot be removed using microsuction, they may proceed to use the irrigation method.
Preparing for your appointment
It is important to soften your ear wax before the procedure. This can be done by applying a few drops of pharmaceutical-grade olive oil or a spray (such as Earol) twice a day for three days.
